How We Think About Sustainability
As a multicultural marketing agency, equity is at the heart of everything we do. We know that climate change and environmental challenges don't affect everyone the same way. Communities that have historically faced barriers to opportunity, including many communities of color, immigrant communities, and lower-income neighborhoods, are often among those most impacted by extreme weather, pollution, transportation inequities, and other environmental issues.
For us, sustainability is part of creating more equitable communities. It's one more way we can be thoughtful about the work we do and the impact we have.
We're a small, fully remote agency, and we know we won't solve every environmental challenge on our own. What we can do is make intentional choices whenever possible, because we believe small decisions can add up over time.
Working Remotely = Working Smarter
One of the biggest ways we reduce our environmental impact is by working remotely.
Our team works from home, which means we don't maintain a traditional office space or commute every day. That naturally helps reduce transportation emissions, office energy use, paper waste, and the everyday supplies that come with a physical workplace.
We also meet with many of our clients virtually when it makes sense. It saves time, cuts down on travel, and makes it easier to connect with organizations throughout the region.
Printing With Purpose
There's still something special about holding a beautifully designed brochure, poster, or annual report in your hands. Print marketing absolutely has its place, and when our clients choose print, we help them make thoughtful decisions along the way.
Whenever possible, we encourage options like:
Recycled or sustainably sourced paper
Environmentally responsible inks
Local and regional print partners
Print quantities that fit the project's needs without creating unnecessary waste
Every project has different goals and budgets, so we'll always help clients find the right balance.
Choosing Digital When It Works Best
Not everything needs to be printed.
Whenever it makes sense, we encourage digital solutions like online reports, presentations, newsletters, contracts, and collaborative file sharing. These options often make information easier to access while reducing paper use and physical waste.
Sometimes the most sustainable option is also the most convenient.
Working With Clients Who Share Our Values
The organizations we work with say a lot about who we are.
We're proud to partner with small businesses, public agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations that are working to make a difference. Supporting organizations that encourage public transportation, strengthen local communities, improve access to services, or celebrate the places we call home isn't a coincidence. It's the kind of work we're passionate about.
Many of these efforts also help create healthier, more resilient communities, which fits naturally with our commitment to equity and inclusion.
Supporting Local Businesses
The big guys don’t need any more money!
Whenever we can, we recommend local photographers, printers, illustrators, videographers, translators, and other creative partners.
Working with local businesses strengthens our regional economy, supports fellow small businesses, and often reduces shipping and transportation. It's a win for our community and, in many cases, for the environment too.
The Search For Better Ways Continues
We don't think sustainability is about being perfect. It's about being intentional.
As MCA Marketing grows, we'll keep looking for ways to reduce waste, make smarter choices, and help our clients do the same. Every project gives us another opportunity to ask, "Is there a more thoughtful way to do this?"
That's the mindset we bring to our work every day, and we're proud to keep learning along the way.
